Too much sun exposure can cause skin cancer and other skin problems. Although people with lighter skin tone are more prone to developing skin cancer than those with a darker complexion, it’s imperative that you take care of your skin and avoid too much sun exposure regardless of your skin’s color. There are different things you can do in order to decrease your chances of developing skin cancer and maintain healthy and glowing skin.
1. Wear a hat and sunglass when you plan on spending extended periods of time outdoors
It’s well worth getting into the habit of wearing a hat and sunglass when you spend extended periods of time outdoors especially in summer. This is to prevent your skin from prematurely aging and developing sunspots.
2. Use sunscreen lotion on a daily basis
Another way to protect your skin from the sun’s UV rays is to start wearing a sunscreen lotion with high SPF or those with at least an SPF 30 rating on a daily basis. This acts as a shield against the sun’s harmful UV rays and can help prevent developing skin cancer.
3. Make an effort to wear makeup products that offers SPF protection
If you wear makeup on a regular basis it’s also a smart idea to select makeup products that boast SPF protection. As an example, you may not be aware that a lot of makeup products such as tinted moisturizers and foundations boast SPF protection.
Just remember that even if a makeup product offers SPF protection, it should be used in conjunction with sunscreen and not as a replacement for high quality, trustworthy sunscreen lotion.
4. Use lightening creams for dark spots
Uneven skin or hyperpigmentation is sometimes caused by too much exposure from the sun. This can fade away by using lightening creams to brighten the dark spot on your skin. This could also be used in other skin problems such as age spots, acne scars, and other blemishes.
5. Avoid the sun during the hottest part of the day
When it comes to protecting your skin from the sun your best bet is to avoid spending time in direct sunlight from 10 am to 3 pm when the sun is at its strongest. As an example, if you enjoy swimming in summer, especially when you’re on vacation, it’s a great idea to swim early in the morning and late in the afternoon, in order to protect your skin from UV rays.
6. Use a lip balm with an SPF rating to protect your lips
Did you know that your lips can be damaged from the sun’s UV rays too? In order to protect your lips from the sun, it’s a great idea to apply a lip balm with an SPF rating on a daily basis. If you wear lipstick on a regular basis, simply apply your lip balm over your lipstick.
7. Use aloe vera gel on your skin after being out on the sun
In order to soothe and to minimize any long term damage to your skin, it’s a wise idea to have aloe vera on hand after spending a few hours out in the sun.
